Blue Tang – Saving the ocean one coral at a time

April 12, 2016Firas Ahmed

You might have come across this beautiful fish through Finding Nemo. However, Dory doesn’t really have terrible memory and is a pretty cool fish.

They are scientifically known by a wide variety of names such as Blue Tang, Blue Surgeonfish and even Hippo Tang. Their diet consists mostly of plankton and algae. They can easily rip the algae off rocks and corals with their sharp teeth and this helps to keep the corals healthy, since algae overgrowth can suffocate and kill corals. Regal Blue Tangs can make themselves semi transparent when faced with danger. They also have sharp spines on the sides of their tails and when alarmed they thrash their tail inflicting serious injury to an enemy.

Don’t let Dory fool you into thinking she’s anything less than a stealthy ninja.
